In preparation for the July 30th, 2013 release of Jason M. Hough’s debut novel, The Darwin Elevator (review), A Bitter Draft and Random House/Del Rey have teamed up for a giveaway of one paperback copy of the book!

Here’s the blurb:
“In the mid-23rd century, Darwin, Australia, stands as the last human city on Earth. The world has succumbed to an alien plague, with most of the population transformed into mindless, savage creatures. The planet’s refugees flock to Darwin, where a space elevator—created by the architects of this apocalypse, the Builders—emits a plague-suppressing aura.

Skyler Luiken has a rare immunity to the plague. Backed by an international crew of fellow “immunes,” he leads missions into the dangerous wasteland beyond the aura’s edge to find the resources Darwin needs to stave off collapse. But when the Elevator starts to malfunction, Skyler is tapped—along with the brilliant scientist, Dr. Tania Sharma—to solve the mystery of the failing alien technology and save the ragged remnants of humanity.”

I highly recommend checking out The Darwin Elevator and anything else that Jason publishes, as he won’t disappoint.

  1. Favorite book of 2013 so far? I’ve only read a few released this year, but it has to be hands down The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch.

There’s a twist about 3/4 of the way through that shatters the thought of predictability. Amazing book.

  2. Saying something has a twist still is a spoiler of sorts. Definitely not cool man, especially with a highly anticipated book that has not been released.

    1. Um, it might be a little spoiler when it comes to the place, but a vague one at that. I could easily be a jerk and tell you what it is, but instead I just tell you that there is a twist (like in every book) to make you more excited. Seems I can’t please everybody.

  3. My fav read this year so far has been the first dark tower book, finally got around to reading it. fantastic.

  4. Guy Kay’s River of Stars is one of my top reads this year. His prose is masterful, the world building is excellent (with great callbacks to Under Heaven), and the story is poignant. Excellent novel all around.

  5. Fav read so far this year is Kevin Hearne’s Hunted. The lastest in the Iron Druid Chronicles it’s like visiting friends you know your in for a good time.
